In December, Dan Panzica, a manufacturing analyst with IHS Markit, who worked for Foxconn for several years, told the Journal that bringing Apple-related manufacturing jobs to the USA would be hard because the United States lacks the population centers to support major manufacturing operations like the ones that exist in China.

Gou added that Foxconn would also remain active in China, dispelling talk that Beijing may be pressuring Foxconn about its investments.

The deal will hinge on whether or not the USA can attract Foxconn.

Foxconn employs about a million people in China.

Foxconn was also rumored five years ago to be scouting the United States to build a display screen factory for its Apple business, and may have considered NY state at that time.

"In the future they may be paying some $500 more for [U.S.] products, but those do not necessarily work better than a $300 phone", Gou explained.

The greatest reason for increasing investment in China is due to the Far East nation's ample availability of cheap and reliable resources, especially its labor. The company pounced as soon as it spotted an opportunity to invest on the mainland, buying land in Shenzhen to build a factory.
