Dhoni, Yuvraj Score Blistering Tons As Records Shatter In Cuttack

India captain Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to field Sunday in the third and final one-day worldwide against England at Eden Gardens. Roy and Sam Billings, the latter who replaced the injured Alex Hales, added 98 for the first wicket and denied India early breakthroughs.

In the last over of the match, India needed to score 15 runs to win the match.

Earlier, India had won the toss and chose to field.

It was another 300-plus run affair as the three-match series went into the record books with a total of 2,090 runs that eclipsed 1,892 runs scored in the Afro-Asia Cup in 2007. If India had imposed an ODI whitewash, the next time India would have played England, it would have ensured that Virat Kohli and co faced them with confidence. Yuvraj Singh, one of the two century-makers in the second match in Cuttack, was hit in the chest by a bouncer from Ball before holing out to Sam Billings on the mid-wicket boundary.

MS Dhoni was felicitated by Kapil Dev during the innings break for his contribution to Indian cricket.

It was raining sixes and fours especially in the last 10 overs with India plundering 120 runs.

The former India captain plundered 134 runs off 122 balls with 10 boundaries and six hits into the stands. He hit eight fours before he was by Jos Buttler off Ben Stokes. Rahane was first to go for one in what can be best described as rusty innings before he was bowled by David Willey, with Rahul following a couple of overs later for 11 after skying a delivery from Jake Ball.

Roy and Billings survived testing spells from India's quicker bowlers to set up a solid foundation, although Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Pandya (3 for 49) got enough movement to plant doubts in the minds of the openers. Morgan and Jonny Bairstow then compiled a partnership, with the England captain continuing from where he left off in Cuttack, where his century took his team close to chasing 382. Pandya ran out of luck and was castled before an over-eager R Ashwin skied a length delivery to short mid-wicket.

The pair batted with intent as Stokes smashed an unbeaten 57 off just 39 balls, including two sixes, while Woakes bludgeoned an unselfish 24 from just 19 balls as England finished their innings on a very competitive 321-8. That target was later reduced to 16 from six after a penultimate over from Ball. The relaid surface, like the Test match against New Zealand a year ago, had a generous covering of green on it, and Virat Kohli did not hesitate in opting to bowl first after winning the toss. If the Delhi batsman won't manage to get some runs in the 3rd ODI against England, it may not serve as a good news for him in the days to come.

Stokes was the pick of the England bowlers with figures of 3 for 63.
