Fox News Moving Tucker Carlson to Megyn Kelly's Timeslot

Willard RiveraJan 06, 2017

Megyn Kelly has landed a sweet new gig at NBC News, and Tucker Carlson just got a major promotion at Fox News - but the big victor of this media game is President-elect Donald Trump, who next week will watch an ally replace a journalist he viewed as an adversary in one of cable television's most-viewed time slots.

In the press release confirming the news, Rupert Murdoch, the Executive Chairman of 21Century Fox and Executive Chairman of FOX News, said "In less than two months, Tucker has taken cable news by storm with his spirited interviews and consistently strong performance".

Martha MacCallum, co-anchor of Fox's morning program America's Newsroom, will take over Carlson's 7 p.m. time slot for The First 100 Days, which will track the first 100 days of President-elect Donald Trump's administration. She has been with the network for 12 years, where she held various hosting roles throughout her tenure before hosting her own daytime news show and later her own prime-time show. Also, Carlson had only been in the 7 p.m. slot, vacated by Greta Van Susteren, since November. Her last "Kelly File" show is Friday, Jan. 6.

After all, Fox didn't simply announce a replacement for Kelly.

In a statement on her Facebook page, Kelly said, "While I will greatly miss my colleagues at Fox, I am delighted to be joining the NBC News family and taking on a new challenge".

New year, new lineup! MacCallum recently signed a multi-year deal to remain with FNC. She also just published a best-selling memoir, "Settle for More". The other x-factor will be how the conservative-leaning Kelly will be treated by her more liberal-leaning colleagues, and how she will handle being in a less friendly political environment.

We're writing this as someone who is not a Fox News viewer, so we can not really offer up any commentary as to whether or not these are the right moves for them. Those who write me the lovely hand-written notes asking me about my kids, and even those who very rarely complain on Twitter about our coverage after a show or a presidential debate.

In January of 2016, Carlson published an opinion piece in Politico in which he recalled a phone call with Donald Trump, who gave a telephone bitch slap to the the wannabe Cobra Kai member.
