Free Weed Is Passed Out For Trump's Inauguration

A group called the DC Cannabis Coalition (DCMJ) plans to hand out 4,200 joints for free in an event named "Trump 420" - a reference to the global cannabis celebration date of April 20.

- A range of groups are planning protests in support of various causes on inauguration day including an organization of pro-pot activists. "This is an outreach opportunity to show President Trump supporters we are the marijuana majority!"

Hundreds of people dispersed through the streets of Washington on Friday during the inauguration of Donald Trump to hand out thousands of free joints and raise public awareness about cannabis consumption.

Although Trump has previously said he believes states should make their own marijuana decisions, Eidinger's group fears Trump's selection of legalization opponent Jeff Sessions to be the next Attorney General might prompt a crackdown on the drug, which remains illegal under federal law.

He added: "We want people to know that cannabis is legal here in DC and we want it to stay that way".

Fauver said she would like to send a message to the Trump's administration. "Join us for smokin' fun time!"

DCMJ - an organization that worked to pass Initiative 71, which legalized marijuana in Washington - is passing out up to two ounces of marijuana. Her ailing 9-year-old daughter, she said, had been helped by cannabis therapy.

Most importantly for protesters, the parts of Washington under federal jurisdiction, which amount to 18 square miles, or 29% of the city, retain a hard ban on marijuana.

The demonstration is one of many protests against the President-elect.
