Razer's gaming laptop prototype has three huge fold-out screens

Razer has previously come out with a number of outlandish designs, and its new Project Valerie is no exception. This time around it has produced a prototype laptop which auto-deploys a trio of 17.3-inch 4K displays for a 12K (11520 x 2160) widescreen experience.

"Multi-monitor desktop set-ups are becoming more necessary for professionals, creators, and gamers", says Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder and CEO via official announcement.

Razer described Project Valerie as a "revolutionary laptop [that] gives you easy access to three eye-popping 4K displays". From certain angles, Valerie looks a lot like the sleek Razer Blade Pro, which was announced in the fall of 2016. The two extra screens pop out from either side of the main display via an automated deployment mechanism and snap into place without needing user adjustment.

The Valerie weighs in at a knee-bending 5.4Kg and is 1.5-inches thick, according to Razer.

Another bonus of this triple screen system is that it is integrated so multi-monitor support is there without any cable clutter, for example. It's not the first time we see a laptop with more than one display (like the Lenovo ThinkPad W700ds), but it's definitely the first time that we're looking at a triple UHD display. Razer will be using these comments and further improve Project Valerie before releasing them to the public. Third-party access to the 16.8 million-color palette will be granted through the Razer Chroma Module, a single hardware and software API. "Project Valerie promises all of the functionality of three screens and none of the hassle".

Much like the Blade Pro, Valerie sports a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card and exceeds the recommended specs for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. Its 12-pound weight is just right in the line with other 17-inch gaming laptops. And as expected of a Razer laptop, this one is geared towards gaming and it does not disappoint.
