Arsenal players behave disgracefully after Bayern hammering, apart from one good Gunner

Antonio JonesFeb 16, 2017

Robert Lewandowski, a Thiago brace and Thomas Muller's late strike effectively ended Arsenal's Champions League at the last-16 stage for a seventh consecutive year, with the Gunners already all but out of the title race.

Every season, however, has its share of drama.

Bayern Munich scored four goals in the second half to send Arsenal to the brink of crashing out of the Champions League.

Arsenal has a challenge ahead of them if they want to win the Champions League. In the second half the most important we lost Koscielny very quickly, who came off at 1-1 and suddenly it looked like we collapsed. Having won the ball in midfield, the French worldwide sprinted past the midfield and a defiant Sergio Ramos.

Lewandowski then passed up a glorious chance to make amends for conceding the penalty as the striker could only head a David Alaba cross over from in front of goal.

The Gunners have crashed out of the elite competition at a similar stage over the past six seasons, but the first game away from home could help them gain an advantage, as per Wenger.

Wenger says the difference this time, and a factor in his side's favour, is that they play the second leg on March 7 at the Emirates Stadium after Wednesday's clash in Munich.

In the other Round of 16 first leg, reigning European champions Real Madrid will look to put the tie to bed at the Santiago Bernabeu.

"Teams have to show what they are made of in Europe".

Bayern enters Wednesday's game having won 10 of its last 11 Bundesliga games, tying Schalke, and has a seven-point lead atop the Bundesliga standings.

"We are playing in Germany and Ozil is highly focused to have a good performance tomorrow". Tactically I don't think we have to press as much in games. Hummels and Martinez were exposed time and again by Sanchez's direct running, but nobody else threw themselves at the task in support. The defending, though, left a lot to be desired: Mustafi, beaten by Lewandowski in the air, Gibbs, sucked in by poor play from Iwobi meant he couldn't get to Lahm.

Sadly, this is revealed constantly, when Arsenal oppose the stronger teams in the league and many times, it is both mentally and physically that they fall short.

The home side did not have to get out of first gear during the opening 25 minutes but the calmness in which Bayern were playing with changed after Manuel Neuer spilled a Mesut Ozil free kick and nearly let Arsenal score an unlikely equaliser.

On the result being one of the most disappointing of his 20 years...
