Harry Kane Reflects on Tottenham's Ascension and Mauricio Pochettino's Influence

Antonio JonesFeb 10, 2017

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino insists his side won't be complacent against Liverpool, despite their opponent's poor start to 2017.

"Everyone knows how I feel about Spurs and the connection I have with the fans".

"They look good at the moment", Kane said. 'Every player has the quality and capacity to be a leader.

"If we can build gaps over other teams behind us, that is the important thing".

And speaking ahead of tomorrow's trip to Anfield, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino said: "We have many leaders and captains". They just need time to develop them.

"They are in good form at the minute but all we can do is win our games and see what happens". We all feel the same, we all want to win, we've all got the same goal.

'Enthusiasm is important, your own motivation.

And he has urged his players to believe they can win trophies with the club in the near future. And yesterday he confirmed the appointment as the club's new scout Steve Hitchen, the man credited with unearthing Luka Modric during his previous spell at Spurs and Luis Suarez at Liverpool.

Jan Vertonghen is also unavailable for Saturday's trip to Merseyside; he continues his recovery from an ankle ligament injury but is expected to return to full first-team training next week. He will report to a three-man football committee made up of Pochettino, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy and academy manager John McDermott.

Tottenham recently lost head of recruitment Paul Mitchell, who tendered his resignation in August although he is still serving a 16-month notice period at the club.

It means Tottenham are likely to stick with the back four they fielded against Middlesbrough last weekend, with Eric Dier taking Vertonghen's place in the centre and Ben Davies deputising for Rose at left-back.

Two and half seasons on from that, we can evidently see the difference of personalities in this group.

'How important it is for us.

"It's true that we are in a position where it is hard to compete with the big clubs that in the last five to ten years have invested a lot of money every season".

Kane could, however, earn considerably more were he to move elsewhere, with big-spending Manchester United and Real Madrid among those to have been heavily linked with his services in the not too distant past.
