New England Patriots, Tom Brady discussing extension

Antonio JonesFeb 17, 2017

He has been enjoying the glory of his fifth championship win.

A player assigned the franchise tag with his team can negotiate and sign with another team - under the non-exclusive tag - but the original team is granted the opportunity to match contract terms or accept compensation of two first-round draft picks for allowing the player to leave. To conclude those two games, where the Patriots were down 10 and 25 points, Brady had seven drives where a failure to score would likely mean a Super Bowl loss.

Despite having a career where taking a fall on the field is sometimes inevitable, several members of the New England Patriots football team have reportedly made a decision to stand for what they believe in.

"If it was up to my wife, she would have me retire today. With the president having so many strong prejudices, I believe certain people might feel accepted there while others won't", McCourty explained.

That unwelcome feeling is a feeling that McCourty shares with Blount, who, when asked about the team's visit to the White House on The Rich Eisen Show, said, "I will not... You never know. That's why I want to keep taking care of what I need to take care of". The Pats have plenty of cap space available to give him an extension that might pay him more money over those three seasons (Spotrac has them almost $63 million under the cap as of this writing) while also extending the deal out closer to his 45th birthday, which is a date he's previously referenced as one he wants to reach. It pains me to say it, but Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback of all time.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft offered his condolences in a statement Tuesday, saying the team has met some great fans over the years, "but none that could rival Logan's passion for the Patriots and his love for Tom Brady".

It was a similar performance to his last Super Bowl turn, brushing aside the two interceptions against Seattle and putting on the God-as-football-surgeon costume in the fourth quarter that fits him so well. Brady, who turns 40 in August, has said plenty of times that he plans to play until he is about 45.
