Sales from the cookie program, now in its 100th year, support Girl Scouts' goals of promoting for young girls decision making, money management, business ethics, people skills and goal setting, the organization says. Girl Scouts were entrepreneurs going as far back as 1917.

In honor of the iconic cookie's 100th anniversary, Influenster, a product discovery and reviews website, conducted an online survey of over 5,000 cookie lovers from across the nation to find out which Girl Scout cookie each state loves. The new taste joins legendary classics like Thin Mints, Caramel deLites, Shortbreads, Peanut butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwich, Lemonades and Thanks-A-Lot. The best-selling Thin Mints are made with pure peppermint oil.

"The Cadette, Seniors and Ambassador girls worked the cookie rally earning community service hours while the Daisies, Brownies and Juniors enjoyed the festivities".

San Diego Girl Scouts visited local TV stations to help launch cookie sales, said Mary Doyle, a spokeswoman for Girl Scouts San Diego.


Holly Furtner, service unit manager for the Girl Scouts, was bundled up as she checked off cars that had loaded up.

Bridge City and Marrero Service Unit 444, led by Darla Brilli, held its rally of 120 girls at St. John Bosco Church, Family Life Center in Harvey. According to The Washington Post, the money they raised went to paying for gifts to sendto soldiers fighting in World War I. Although other troops followed suit, cookie sales really got a boost in 1922, when Florence E. Neil, a Girl Scout director in Chicago, Illinois, published the Girl Scouts' first official cookie recipe in The American Girl magazine.

The Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania released a statement saying the generosity of citizens has helped recoup the money that was stolen and the scout has made a decision to continue selling cookies.
