Fake news crackdown threatens religious news

In a contributor report for Forbes, author Peter Cohen suggests that those fake news posts could've accounted for up to half of Facebook's ad revenue during that period.

The social media website Facebook has accidentally deleted posts by its founder Mark Zuckerberg, including two messages he had posted concerning the spread of fake news on the website and their role in the USA presidential elections.

It's worth noting that Facebook has suffered from some major bugs recently, including one earlier this month that briefly affected Facebook user profiles, including Zuckerberg's, and incorrectly stated that the users were dead.

Facebook spokesperson Jay Nancarrow told CNN that the removal "was caused by an error in one of our systems and the posts have now been restored".

Then, on November 19, the CEO posted another update, giving more detail on Facebook's plan on how it will tackle fake news.

However, a short time later, both posts were back up.

According to a spokesperson quoted by The Verge, the posts, including the above example, were removed by "mistake".

Earlier this month, a odd bug caused Facebook to display a memorial message about users' regular profile pages, including that of Zuckerberg, erroneously declaring them to be deceased.

The social media giant has drawn fierce criticism of late for not doing enough to curb the dissemination of misinformation on its site in the lead-up to the presidential election.

In the second post from November 19, Zuckerberg laid out steps Facebook planned for cracking down on the spread of misinformation.

"We need to be careful not to discourage sharing of opinions or mistakenly restricting accurate content".
