Why Christmas Is Way Better After You Have Kids

HOLLY HILL: A lighting ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. Friday at City Hall, 1065 S. Ridgewood Ave., and will feature an appearance from Miss Florida Teen USA 2017. The Children's Christmas Season Parade welcomes organizations, school bands, and families to walk the parade with colorful floats and bright lights. Our junior firefighters will have a craft table where kids can make gingerbread men and other crafts.

The parade begins 6 p.m. on Riverside Drive West at Atkinson Park and heads west down Sandwich Street, ending at Brock Street. It will be on several streets in the center of town, including Coeur d'Alene, Fourth, Arbor, Montana, Cassia, Nebraska, Schooner, Nagel, Boekel, Stevens, Pine, Wright and Vernon. At 5:45, Father Christmas will join Summit Mayor Nora Radest to light the Town Holiday Tree.

Anyone driving past the Brentwood Library this time of year can not help but notice the enormous, decked-out Christmas tree in front.

For those looking for a hot drink and a snack during or after the parade, Rising Up will offer free hot cocoa and $2 cinnamon rolls at the Warming Center, 527 State St., from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

India Street will be closed to traffic during the occasions.

The Christmas tree lighting is scheduled to happen shortly after the parade has concluded.

Entertainment will include musical presentations by the Hayden Meadows and Atlas Elementary Special Choirs.

Children can write to Santa Claus and drop the letters off at a mailbox that's beside the Christmas tree.

Flanagan said 600 to 700 people turn out annually for their breakfast, at which children meet Santa and get a candy cane.

I see how volunteers are touched when they see the thankful tears of some who wouldn't have much of a Christmas without the help we provide (through of course, the generous contributions we receive).

Donations will be accepted for the Toys for Tots campaign.

“For this years parade, we have floats coming in all decorated in a Winter Wonderland Christmas theme with lights and music, ” said Stacey Watts, director of media and communications with Airdrie Parades.

The St. Maries Fire District will hold a live and dead tree burning presentation at 3 p.m.at the Grub Box parking lot. Photos with Santa's reindeer will be available from 11 a.m.to 4 p.m.at the corner of East Main and Southeast First Street, as well.

The Celebration of Trees display will be open during regular business hours Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.to 5 p.m., on Saturday from 10 a.m.to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 12:30-5 p.m.

The St. Anne's Society of Holy Angels Church will host the annual Cookie and Craft Fair Sunday.
