FOX News' Megyn Kelly jumps ship to NBC

Megyn Kelly, once considered to be Fox News's bright shining primetime star, is leaving the cable channel for a network: NBC.

NBC News chairman Andrew Lack called Ms Kelly "an exceptional journalist" who has "demonstrated tremendous skill and poise".

"We have a deep bench of talent, many of whom would give their right arm for her spot", he added.

Writing a short statement on Facebook, Kelly said that she will miss her Fox colleagues but is excited for the road ahead. "Now, I have chose to end my time at FNC, incredibly enriched by the experiences I have had".

According to a release, the multi-year agreement will also put Kelly at the anchor desk for a new Sunday evening news magazine show. I will also participate in NBC's breaking news coverage and its political and special events coverage. In her tweet on Tuesday, Kelly said she was deeply grateful to Fox News, its leaders and Fox's viewers, "who have taught me so much about what really matters".

These accusations came to light in Kelly's memoir Settle for More - and with this new position, Kelly may just have been following the title's advice. But she is clearly a leading voice for right-wing viewpoints, which is why Fox reportedly offered her $20 million a year to stay.

It was unclear at what time the daytime program would run, or how NBC News would ensure that all of its affiliates would carry it, given that daytime television is often filled with syndicated programs.

Kelly's allegations were one of several that emerged after another Fox News anchor, Gretchen Carlson, filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against Ailes previous year. Texas Senator Ted Cruz was her first interview on that show. CNN anchor Anderson Cooper also lasted two seasons in daytime.

The terms of Kelly's deal with NBC are undisclosed, The New York Times reported. When she shared her own account of Ailes treating female Fox News Staffers inappropriately, many believe Ailes' fate was sealed.

Ms Kelly's contract with Fox was due to end later this year. During the 2016 election, Kelly's popularity was boosted with an on-again, off-again public feud with President-elect Donald Trump. Over at the Reddit thread devoted to Trump, there were multiple posts bidding Kelly "good riddance" and congratulating themselves for somehow being the reason for her departure (the posts did not elaborate on how they reached that conclusion). On display here is exactly the kind of savvy that has made Kelly both a hit with conservatives and the occasional crush object of liberals; while making time to have dinner with her family, Kelly is pooh-poohing the macho-prerogatives that have historically guided the careers of ambitious TV journalists.
