Park Visitors Spend Nearly 8 Hours Trapped on Ride

The tourists and fun-seekers on the slow-moving ride are most likely hungry, claustrophobic and badly in need of a bathroom, but Orange County Fire authorities and park officials have both said they are not in danger.

Passengers had to be winched down one-by-one by emergency rescuers with everyone safely on the ground at around 10pm.

"The best way to bring them down would be obviously to lower the sky cabin ride itself to the ground", Kurtz said.

The passengers, as a sort of recompense for the ride's malfunction, were given free passes to the park.

Ultimately, around 7 p.m., the firefighters climbed the central hub of the ride then rappelled down on to the top of the SkyCabin, reports City News Service A rope-and-harness system was rigged to lower each stranded passenger one-by-one.

The last of the riders were rescued at 9:54 p.m. local time, the park said.

At about 2 p.m. the Sky Cabin attraction stopped "approximately 100 feet" in the air, theme park officials said in the statement released on their Twitter page Friday evening.

The safety of our guests and employees is our number one priority.

Knott's representatives say their mechanics tried several times to get the enclosed, circular tram down before calling the Orange County Fire Authority to assist.

The doughnut-shaped ride, which originally opened in 1976, got stuck in 2008. There was not an immediate reason given by Knott's Berry Farm for the reason why the Sky Cabin ride broke down.

No one was injured, according to the amusement park.
