Back Brexit bill, Jeremy Corbyn orders Labour MPs

Tory rebels and Labour were due to gang up in Parliament on Tuesday evening to force ministers to give MPs the power to send Theresa May back to the negotiating table if she got a bad deal. "It's either vote for the deal... or leave the European Union without a negotiated deal".

During seven hours of debate, lawmakers voted against a series of attempts by pro-EU lawmakers to attach extra conditions to May's plan to begin divorce talks by March 31.

Remain-backing Conservative MPs have indicated they could be willing to support amendments seeking to ensure Parliament has a say on the "endgame" if exit negotiations end without a deal.

Discussing her visit to an informal EU summit last week, she said this afternoon: "Our European partners now want to get on with the negotiations, so do I, and so does this House, which last week voted by a majority of 384 in support of the Government triggering Article 50".

Former Tory Chancellor Kenneth Clarke said that the public had not realised that Brexit would mean leaving the single market, because these claims were dismissed as "project fear".

The argument I have made about a vote over the last three months is that the vote must cover the Article 50 deal and any future relationship and that it must take place before the deal has been concluded.

"There are of course further stages for the Bill in committee and in the Lords and it is right that this process should be completed properly".

"But, as I have said before, European Union citizens living in the United Kingdom make a vital contribution to our economy and our society, and without them we would be poorer and our public services weaker".

Labour Party Brexit spokesman Keir Starmer says that it's a 'huge and very important concession, ' but is demanding more details.

"The vote they're offering - which will give MPs a choice between an extreme Brexit and falling off a cliff edge into WTO trade rules - isn't a concession, it's an ultimatum".

Mrs May has warned potential Conservative rebel MPs they will be "obstructing" the will of the people if they vote with Labour and the SNP to change the Bill.
