Spotify to relocate U.S. headquarters to 4 World Trade Center

Spotify's move joins a growing number of media and tech companies that have migrated to the WTC and Lower Manhattan, including Conde Nast in the neighboring One World Trade Center. Spotify will create more than 1,000 new jobs and retain 832 jobs, while investing to fit out and equip its new office space. The rent reduction incentive program was created to lure businesses back to the World Trade Center site in Lower Manhattan. The company will retain the 800 employees working in NY.

According to the folks at Billboard, the music streaming giant is expanding its New York City headquarters, moving to the 4 World Trade Center in lower Manhattan while also doubling its workforce.

We know this because NY governor Andrew Cuomo felt the need to tell us, seemingly so that he could brag about the fact that the leading premium streaming platform is putting so much of its operation in the city. The state will provide $11 million in rent subsidies over 15 years in the tower, which is now fully leased. As Spotify will move staff from its existing NY base to the new offices, they could in theory be included in that 1000.

In filling out its new space, Spotify plans to increase its workforce in NY comprised of software engineering and product teams, label and artist relations, editorial, shows, original content, marketing, legal, sales, finance among other sectors.

The 36-track Spotify playlist included four songs by Billy Joel, two Bruce Springsteen songs, tracks by Queens natives Simon and Garfunkel, and "Empire State of Mind" by Jay Z and Alicia Keys. As of September 2016, the service had 40 million paid subscribers.
